The FLuorescence EXplorer (FLEX)

is a satellite that will provide new insights into the photosynthesis of vegetation from 2026 onwards. The German FLEX project office is an interface between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German users of FLEX data. Our goal is to prepare the German user community for FLEX. Our client is the German Space Agency at DLR (funding ID 50EE2106).

EGU Mary Anning Conference: Novel constraints on the coupling between the water and carbon cycles

The aim of this conference is to explore the relationship between water and the carbon cycle.

The further development of biogeochemical indicators, remote sensing observations, theoretical findings and modelling developments will be discussed and ways of cooperation will be identified and promoted. New methods and topics of interest include the linking of surface measurements and mechanistic processes, including products such as solar-induced fluorescence.

The ESA Living Planet Symposium 2025 in Vienna will be exciting for future FLEX users. There are five sessions related to FLEX: Preparation for multimission assessment of the carbon cycle (Flex, BIOMASS and the Sentinel Expansion missions), Opportunities and challenges for global monitoring of photosynthesis from space, Global Carbon Budgets and Earth Observation, FLEX validation status and plans, Preparing for the FLuorescence EXplorer (FLEX) mission!
