ESA: Call for proposals for FLEX calibration and validation (Cal/Val) published

The launch of FLEX is scheduled for the end of 2026. ESA is therefore now calling for calibration and validation activities (Cal/Val). The announcement of opportunity (AO) is an open call for participation in Cal/Val activities for FLEX products. The activities are to extend over the satellite commissioning phase (phase E1) and the entire operational phase (phase E2). According to ESA, institutions and individuals from the following fields are invited to apply: vegetation monitoring, plant physiology, remote sensing, and related fields. The Cal/Val work will include ground-based, uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), airborne, and modeling activities. The goal is to validate the FLEX satellite products and gain a better understanding of SIF and derived remote sensing products. Further information on the application process and relevant documents, such as the current Cal/Val plans, are available here. Applications can be submitted via the ESA user services portal until August 31, 2025.
